School Bells Ring...Along With Those Alarms in Our Heads

September 2007 Edition
Issue 19

Alas, no more long warm days on the beach, followed
by fruity drinks and sunsets. Fall is officially here,
kids are settled back in school, vacations are over,
and business owners everywhere are in that
"end-of-year frenzy," making these last few months
really count and starting to draft 2008 plans.
Autumn is a time of many changes...weather, goals,
relationships, and fashion (see below).
Remember, when we were kids we had to adjust
every year to new teachers, tougher classes, and
a novel assortment of strangers. So, simply buy
yourself a cool bookbag, sharpen your
pencils, make new friends in the lunchroom
(metaphorically-speaking) and settle into the fall
semester!

Graduating Class: Entering the "Real World"
Transformers: Trends & Facts
Hello! My name is...
Students have gotten so used to "friending" each other
online that they may have lost the ability to
interact with new people in real life. New York
University started the semester with a class on old-fashioned
friend-making skills.
In Your Face(Book)
According to eMarketer's research, U.S.
advertisers will spend about $900 million on social
network advertising this year and more than $2 billion
by 2010.
What Should I Be When I Grow Up?
According to Fast Company, these are
the hottest careers for 2007. (Those kids who don't
have social skills may still be OK.)
Accountants are Sexy
...at least according to this Business Week study
of employment trends.
Kids! Don't Spit Out Your Gum!
Wrigley opened a $45 million innovation center in
2005. According to Fast Company, the investment is
paying off. Orbit is now the #1 gum in America, with
annual sales of over $200 million (up 23% over last
year). The new 5 brand (my personal fave) is also
expected to be a financial winner.

Farewell to Interns...
More Amps: Extra Marketing Services
Although our summer squad has returned to school,
theONswitch is pleased to announce the addition of
two recent graduates and a seasoned professional to
our team! Jodi Siegel, has more
than 20 years of branding, marketing, and strategic
planning experience (and knows how to get things
done too!) Quenna Sanchez and Keith Gordon both
studied marketing as undergraduates and had
extensive volunteer experience in PR, events, and
writing!
And, with more people come more desks. We've
expanded to the space next door. More room
for all that creative juice!
Our space is expanding in the virtual world as well. I
broke down and put up a Facebook page. Friend me if you
dare!

Fall Curriculum
Building Buzz: New Clients and New Work
From pre-school to corporate leadership...from
the Hudson River to the stars, theONswitch continues
to help a wide range of businesses prosper.
New "Kids in the Class"
We're thrilled to be working with a wide range of new
clients. The City of Yonkers asked
theONswitch to promote the new Yonkers New York
Water Taxi service and
fall foliage cruises. We welcome Oasis Day
Spa to our roster. It is one of the first and
best full-service day spas in NYC (including a location
at the JFK Jet Blue terminal).
We are "building buzz" for
Yonkers Partners in Education and a brand-new
online business called Zoomnia (which
will revolutionize the way you find stuff you need -- right
in your own backyards). And whether you prefer
revolution or evolution, One to One
Leadership helps
companies and perform better -- with new (and fun)
approaches to training and development. We're
helping them promote their capabilities to
corporations, professional service firms, and the
media. We completed a
website for The Bully
Coach's new book and are developing branding
and sites for S&J Security, Gramatan Management,
and Elite Dental Studios.
Trend-Setters
Eco-Bags went to the
Emmys! You can look like a celeb with
your own bag too!
And, speaking of the "A-list," you can Sweat with the
Stars at THE
GYM at a November 3 event we're
planning to benefit The Food Bank for
Westchester. Work-out with sports, screen, and
social leaders -- all for a good cause!
Homeroom
66main, the
hottest new place to live on the Yonkers waterfront, is
getting ready for move-in this fall (and just got a
New York Times mention, thanks to our PR
efforts!). Gotta get out of your current space? Enter
the
You Tube contest, and you could win $3,366
towards rent!
And, of course, we continued to get our clients into the
news -- print, tv, radio, and online -- local and
national. What's YOUR definition of PR nirvana? We
can help you achieve it!
