Green Like Money...Green Like Earth
March 2008 Edition
Issue 24
Money and Earth

Earth Day is just four weeks away (and the "green marketing thing" is already totally out-of-control). Businesses are worrying about all kinds of green, as tax day and recession panic loom large.

But did you know that the color green is also believed to reduce stress?
So, pour yourself a cup of green tea and settle in to read our March issue.

The first quarter is drawing to a close. And Apple just had its best quarter in history, selling 22 million iPods and 2 million iPhones. We are all green with envy!

But as some young folks are listening to their apples, others are growing them. Farming is becoming a hot profession for more young people, according to this article.

And the organic food business is enjoying growth of 17-20% a year, but the "traditional" food sector is only growing at a rate of 2-3% annually.

So, you need to grow? Plant those earbuds in your head and plant some greens!

Green Giant

This advertising icon was created in 1928 (and his ad debut was disappointing). However, he has "grown" and withstood the test of time. In fact, the Green Giant statue in Blue Earth, Minnesota gets 10K visitors a year. Ho, ho, ho!

If you're going to speak green, know your stuff. See theONblog for a perspective.
But please don't stop speaking! Hippy to Wiki deals with "the mime generation."

After months of "tilling the soil," one of our much- coveted media mentions sprouted in March. The Yonkers Waterfront (and 66main, our client's building) were featured in the Sunday New York Times.

Spring stresses have you pleading, "Gimme a Break?" Then enter the Oasis Day Spa video contest. We developed the creative and are helping to spread the word of calm and valuable prizes.

The American Camp Association NY Section engaged theONswitch to be their "Sherpa" in developing a camp-wide "Climb Everest!" program. It's a virtual climb for hundreds of campers and staff. See you at the summit!

First Trade Show is launching a green division next month, and hired us to help it "sprout." (Did you know that, according to the EPA, the trade show industry is the second biggest commercial waste producer?) They will be producing ECOBAGS' new unique display for the Go Green Expo too!

Spring cleaning was the objective of the March Madness Sale at Nancy & Co. And we helped them sell out 30% of their inventory so far by building buzz in fashion blogs and The New York Post.

Green marketing and how to spend your green on consultants were two features authored by Nancy A. Shenker in the March issue of the New York Enterprise Report.

The moon isn't made of green cheese, but you can meet the men who walked on it at the NY premier of "The Wonder of It All." Then give a much-needed green donation to support the arts or help battle hunger.
And the NY world of green will all turn out for Go Green Expo.

You may have missed the Business Council of Westchester Mega-Mixer on March 24th, but it's not too late to take the "How Bright Are You?" quiz, which debuted at the show.
Or, you can still join us in honoring Sharon Rowe of ECOBAGS at the Hall of Fame dinner.

Even April showers won't dampen our spirit and publishing schedule. Watch your inbox for next month's 30-Second Current.
