School Supplies

We've swapped beach bags for book bags (or at least bags for our PDAs and other electronic gadgets). September is a great time to learn, expand, and "find new friends" that will help businesses boom. Are you ready to make the grade?

Take Good Notes!
Transformers: Trends & Facts
School

Freshman fashionistas face fall frugality. Back-to-school retail sales were weak this season. "Practical" and necessary purchases (like family footwear) fared better than designer apparel.

The cafeteria lady says, "No trans fats for you!" as more schools offer healthy lunch options and replace high-sugar beverages in vending machines. Just in time! One-third of all American kids are considered overweight.

And those big boys and girls still love their sports! More than 1 million high school boys play football, which remains the most popular sport. Girls, on the other hand, like shooting hoops. (And, of course, Michael Phelps has now made swimming super-cool, and has the potential to earn $100 million in endorsement deals.

Healthy bodies...healthy minds! The number of college students majoring in Psychology has climbed 22%, according to this study. But graduates who solve computer woes rather than human problems have greater earning power, according to Forbes.

Neon

What's better than that timeless after-school snack? It's our super-rich "menu" of NEON services! Facebook originated with the student market, and now social media isn't just for youth anymore. Find out how theONswitch can help YOUR business get to the head of the class and connect with the "popular and smart kids." We have a proven track record in helping businesses learn about and profit from new media (even if you need "remedial" help).

Why is it called NEON? It's 24/7, puts your name in lights, and never goes out of style. (And remember, neon was just gas until someone figured out how to put it in a tube and electrify it!)

Blog...blog...blog...
Typewriter

This month, theONblog deals with the bad behavior that sends business owners to the principal's office.
And Hippy to Wiki pays homage to school fashions we'd prefer to forget.

Building Buzz: New Clients/New Work
Protester

Activism is alive and well at theONswitch. We've just taken it to the virtual streets!

The schoolyard bully is bigger and more powerful these days. Columbia University is attempting to take over the land owned by business owner (and client of theONswtich) Nick Sprayregen of Tuck-it-Away Storage through Eminent Domain. We created a blog, Facebook page and viral campaign to get him almost 200 petition signatures in just a few days. Sign here to show your support!

And while school elections and Presidential posturing are in full swing, the Carousel Cakes "Pie Poll" has just begun. These "politi-pies" make a perfect treat for any political party -- and part of your purchase goes toward supporting your favorite candidate. Apathetic or undecided? Eat cake anyway!

The Nancy & Co. Jean Therapy promotion (referenced last month) won by a landslide in "most likely to succeed." Sales of jeans in her East Hampton store were up almost 200% from last year, thanks to an integrated marketing campaign.

Be sure you're electing to hire the "best in class" team for your organization. theONswitch just helped launch a new division and built a website for One to One People.

What better way to inspire school spirit than with a song? Beth & Scott's "Be True to Your School" contest was featured on CBS-880 and other local media this month.
