Remember when the phrase "summer vacation" conjured up images of map-guided road trips, weekend getaways to the shore and family camping trips?
Welcome to the evolution of summer, where GPS is king and cries of "are we there yet?" are drowned out by Dora the Explorer blaring from the minivan's DVD player.
New Year

As the group that witnessed first-hand this summer transformation, it was only fitting that our own "new kids on the block," Alexa, Sara, Tara and Zach, theONswitch interns and new hires, penned (or keyboarded) the August Current
.

Summer Flings
Transformers: Trends & Facts

A recent CNN poll says that nearly a third of Americans adjusted their vacation plans this year.
"Staycation" was the buzz word this summer as gas prices soared and business owners put in extra time.

Can "staycation" be good for commerce? Find out here how some businesses cashed in.

Cutthroat competition to get into top colleges and the rising cost of education means that teens spent their free time building their resumes rather than their tans. Whether constructing houses in developing countries or landing an internship,  today's teens have redefined summer vacation. Check out DailyCandy's round-up of "voluntourism" trips, for unique opportunities to lend a hand while vacationing.

Making Waves
New Clients/New Work

As summer winds down, many people are bracing themselves for the "big chill" of winter energy bills, which are expected to rise 36 percent.
Save energy and dollars by changing your window coverings. Our new client Eclipse, makes energy-saving, noise-reducing, black-out draperies. They can reduce your energy bill by up to $1,000 a year! Makes cents, doesn't it?

Summer may have changed, but some things always hold true: backyard barbecues, wiffle ball, and apple pie.  Hold on to the way summer used to be with pie or another treat from Carousel Cakes. (Speaking of tradition, their recipes  have survived for more than 50 years!)

Treat yourself to a luxury "staycation." Oasis Day Spa, the spa that has perfected affordable indulgence is expanding to our own backyard here in Westchester.  The new location will open its doors this fall in a brand-new building in Dobbs Ferry with an awesome roof deck.

We hate to rush your summer, but you gotta check out our new favorite duo, Beth and Scott.  These arts-in-education specialists are sure to be this year's school bus buzz!
